Thanks so much for coming here to give us your story idea. Unless you are a journalism student, please open the page marked "citizen story ideas" in the box to your left. Click on the edit tool to add your idea to the list.
It is always helpful (but not required) if you include your contact information, in case we have questions about your idea. It is also extremely valuable if you suggest people we might be able to interview about the story and include their contact information as well, if you know it.
We cannot guarantee that we will assign someone to write your story, but we will make every effort to do so — and we believe that even just the act of suggesting the story will help all of us to stay better informed.
If you are a journalism student at Miami University or Earlham College, please add your story ideas to the appropriate page under "Student story ideas." Miami University students should type their story ideas in the following format:
SLUG: By Hooda Writer, 500 words. This sentence will explain the gist of the story, so that editors know what you're writing about and how the story will be framed.
- Questions to ask: After this prompt, give your editor examples of the kinds of questions you plan to ask, of whom and why.
- Sources: After this prompt, list people you plan to contact, like Sheezan Expert, Heeza Citizen, Sheeza Nuther-Source.
- Multimedia components: After this prompt, desscribe what photos will be included with your story, or could be taken; what recordings of interviews or other audio/video elements will be available. (Note that many Miami classes require that students gather material for both print and multimedia versions of stories.)
